The question to be asked by Oromos in Atlanta
Georgia!

This coming week in the end of July 2009 is the week of Oromo meetings and events in Atlanta
Georgia: sport, political, cultural, religious, social meetings and even datings of Oromo gals and
guys do happen during this time. Let me concentrate on the political meetings and give my short
opinion on how to make it fruitfull. No question that the Oromo END goal aka self-determination
is almost accepted by all Oromo political organization in the walk of life.
Some non-Oromo politicians try to creat the "third way" like that of Abeshas renegade
"opposition leader" aka Ato Lidetu. These non-Oromos are neither for Independent Oromia nor
for Autonomous Oromia in Ethiopian context, but they do advocate for all Oromo people to be
Ethiopians and live as such with out demanding any sort of autonomy. Even some Oromo
politicians seem to tell us that we are on a cross road to choose between two Kaayyoos:
Independent Oromia or United Ethiopia.
I just saw a picture on Gadaa website with a question originally raised by Burqaa (Oromo
magazine): Eessa deemaa jirraa? The question suggests as if we are standing at cross road on
the place showing us the two directions to two different Kaayyoos among which we have to
choose:
either to move on the way to Kaayyoo of establishing Democratic Republic of Oromia or to move
on the way to accept Ethiopia as our END country and democratize it. I personally do differ from
such
suggestion of Gadaa.com and from the opinion, which is probably that of Burqaa magazine.
I do believe that Oromo as a nation has never been on cross road to decide on two different
Kaayyoos, but we used to be at the cross road to decide on the way to move to the only one
Kaayyoo we do have aka Self-determination. For our nation the Kaayyoo is clear: Sovereign
(Independent) State of Oromia!! The sovereign state of Oromia can choose to live with in UNION
with other neighbour nations or to go with out the union per referendum. But there are certain
rhetorics like autonomous Oromia in a united Ethiopia now entertained by some genuine Oromos
in OPDO, OFC and even by some part of OLF leadership, which is a mere tactical move, but it has
never been an attempt to give up the only one Kaayyoo we Oromos as a nation do have.
Oromos in OPDO do their rhetoric just not to be in conflict with Weyane they are working with
and whom they now can't win by confrontation; Oromos in OFC do the same not to loose the
"legal" status as an opposition; and of course some OLF leadership, such as those in Shanee do
it to appease and do businness with international community, who are interested more in a
united Ethiopia than in a disintegrated Ethiopia just for the sake of their (e.g USA's) own interest.
But sure is that our spiritual organization (dhaaba Oromoo) aka OLF, which is the mindset we all
Bilisummaa loving Oromos do have, is moving in the above mentioned three levels to realize our
emancipation. To put it clearly in short, I think this liberation spirit moves now:
- at the level of the governing party OPDO to keep the status quo of a limited cultural autonomy
we already achieved i.e to hinder the back ward move of our liberation journey to the status we
were in till 1991, the time when there were no Oromia as a state, the time when we had no right
to use of Afaan Oromo in Oromia, the time we enjoyed no limited cultural right which we do have
now.....etc.
- at the level of OFU (Oromo Federalists Union), which is now active in MEDREK, the opposition
movement which tries to achieve a genuine autonomy for Oromia in federal Ethiopia, Oromia as
the national state being liberated from the current Weyane looting and lording. This status of
genuinely autonomous Oromia in genuinely federated region called Ethiopia is for us Oromos a
half way move to our END Kayyoo.
- at the level of OLF proper, which is determined to lead us to the END aka to our national self-
determination, be it per ballot or per bullet. I do include all rebel Oromo organizations who are
coordinated under ULFO to be part and parcel of this level of Oromo liberation movement.
This well coordinated move of OLF-spirit is in deed very scary to our current enemy aka Weyane!
It is fact that genuine Oromos in OPDO and OFU people are led by OLF-mindset. Genuine OPDO-
Oromos talk explicitly that Oromos are already liberated, but implicitly they work for the true
liberation to come. OFU-Oromos talk about Ethiopian unity overtly, but they do work for
independence of Oromia covertly. How can Weyane deal with this? Imprison and kill all Oromos in
a walk of life? Really very puzzling for our arch enemies!
For Oromo as a nation, the Kaayyoo is clear and it is almost the same to the Waaqaayyoo (God)
we do believe in. The only area where factions of Oromo political groups do differ is on the Karaa
(way) to Kaayyoo. For some it should be the move from Djibouti (Garbummaa = slavery) with
some stops in Diredhawa and Adaama to Finfinne (Bilisummaa = Liberation), i.e an evolutionary
move. For others, who just want to fly from Djibouti directly and quickly to Finfinne, in short it is a
revolutionary move. But the reality in life is showing the second group, that the slow move by
train with stops in Diredhawa (status quo) and Adaama (genuine Language Based Federation
(LBF) aka genuine "ethnic" federalism) is very mandatory and will be the most probable route we
all Oromos take together in our Liberation journey, i.e the evolution way rather than the
revolution way. In short we Oromos do have only one Kaayyoo and we do believe in only one
Waaqaayyoo. The difference we do have is only on the Karaa to the Kaayyoo and on the speed
of our move in the way we choose. So the question to be raised by Gadaa.com as well by Burqaa
magazine should have been the question of the way to our goal: Eessaan gara Kaayyoo tti
demaa jirraa or the question of the speed: Eessan dafnee Kaayyoo keenya tti fiiguu dandeenya?
These questions are also the questions, which have to be asked by Oromos during their
meetings in Atlant Georgia!
