Bilisummaa.com: Breaking or Making Oromia?!
At a time, when the politics of division and marginalization become the order of the day, when
two groups working for the same end act like bitter rivals seeking total conquest or surrender of
other group and deliberately hastening their dooms days, when role of maanguddoos is
mistrusted or downplayed by rivals, when the intellectuals fails to break the cycle of political
chaos, when rivals seem complacent with annihilations, it is natural for the enemies to
accentuate this surreal to perpetuate political nightmarish of the adversary. This is good strategy
to invest in to divert competing group attention from the real problem or obscure them not to see
eye to eye. This is save heaven for one’s enemy to harness for further weakening of its foe.
The rift and the friction we saw in the Oromo politics, especially in the camp of OLF, is best
scenario for TPLF to take advantage of it to purchase more time to strengthen its yolk on Oromo
either through continuously watering the seed of split up so that the group remains fragile and
fails to attain its goal or through convincing the supporters that it is not worth to side with the
organization incapable of delivering its promises. How enemy use information to weaken Oromo?
First, as strategy to weaken its adversaries, TPLF uses misinforming Oromo to perpetuate the
cycle of suspicion and mistrust. Creating real and artificial clashes between different groups
standing for common cause, providing wrong information about the group, providing false
information about personalities in the group and their motives, capitalizing on the weaknesses of
the organization, caring different criminal and terrorist acts in its names, associating the group
with certain radical group, and creating every bad thing imaginable, corrupting some members
and …you name them. These are made them to help false information about the organization and
confuse the public.
Second, as strategy to create misinformation about the group and to create confusion and
desperateness among its supporters, TPLF uses Oromo media outlet to reach the vast Oromo
public. This media outlet could be either electronic media or print media. They figure out which
media is effective to employ for targeting a particular group. For instance, if the target is
Diaspora, Oromo websites and pal talks come at the forefront for TPLF to use.
This is why the enemy uses paltalk and websites like bilismmaa.com to weaken Oromo cause.
The writer talked to different Oromo individuals about what they think of bilisummaa.com.
Abbebe, an Oromo student from Washington, approached by the writer, says the following about
the most perplexing position of bilisummaa.com, “Bilisummaa.com is the most detrimental voice. It
is so much fluid that their position is tough to tell than to surmise that they are against every
Oromo political group happens to get momentum against TPLF. They use everything to divide
Oromo. Sometimes they appeal to regionalism, Arsi against Hararghe, or Arsi against Wallega…
one region against another region. Sometimes they appeal to religion; by posting religiously
sensitive issues. They want to inject religious issues into Oromo cause so that Oromo’s abandon
prioritizing fighting for their rights in lieu of serving divine call or Oromos became suspicions of
each other because of religion.”
Biqiltuu, resident of Minnesota, sees the issues differently, “She says bilisummaa.com is different
from many Oromo websites established to serve their mass since the former has a business
motive as its primary drive.” She says, “Bilisummaa.com is the only website that charges the
visitors to pay for watching their postings even one they get from weyane media. They ask the
listeners either to subscribe or donate for the videos they get from ETV, EriTV or STVO.” She
says, “Can you tell me how much they make? She answers, no way, as they are not transparent
about it and not accountable to any body.’ May be they benefited a lot.” Here is how they solicit
money for their agenda, either through donation or subscription, “Beeksisa!! Kabajamtoota
daawwattoota keenya: Warri hamma ammaa gumaatan nu bira dhaabbattan martii keessan
galatooma. Marsaa kana jiraachisuu keessaniif irraa deebinee galatooma jenna. Ispoonsariin
keenya isinuma waan taaheef, Warrii hojii nuti goone kanatti gammaddanii akka dalagaan tun itti
fuftu barbaaddan waggatti/barattii miseensummaan $24,99 qofa. warrii dandessan.” “Is this
purely business oriented website,” she asks. ‘Can you find any thing of that sort from
Jimmatimes.com or Gadaa.com or voieoforomia.com?” she asks.
Another point she tried to ascertain the point with is the bitter fighting bilismmaa.com waged on
gadaa.com over the latter alleged using of “copy righted” materials of bilismmaa.com that
compromised the revenue it could get from Google. Shamefully, they asked their visitors to sign
a petition to Google so that gadaa.com would stop posting its “original work” for which they
deserve “exclusive right”. She asks, “If bilisummaa.com does not have business motive, why it
tries to kill Oromo websites that serves its people by making information or entrainment
accessible?”
Hence, for Biqiltuu, as profit oriented organization, the motive of bilismmaa.com is fabricating
information that boosts their rating. “The logic is’, she says, “The more visitors, the more revenue
from Google. That is lucrative business; making business out of dragging foot on Oromo people
destiny”. She compared bilismmaa.com that opposes every Oromo cause with foxnews that
oppose every thing Whitehouse does. For her, people in bilismmaa.com are just like Rush
Limbaugh or Glen Beck who do what they do for rating and business thereof.
For Gammachiis, bilismmaa.com has two dimensions. The first dimension is it uses Afaan Oromoo
which they need to be complemented for. The second side is they are divisive and promote
politics of intolerance. He says, “Look at what they write about Oromo army. Look at what they
write about any gathering of Oromo crying for unity. Look at bad things they have to say about
all Oromo politicians. For bilisummaa.com, what is good for Oromo peoples is only their
perspective which is actually disastrous. They do not want to end this bizarre situation in Oromo
politics since it is rain making for them”.
For Hakiim, bilisummaa.com is either a media hijacked by Oromo enemies or established by
enemies. He says, “They want to point their figure at every thing genuinely Oromo as offshoot of
TPLF strategy. They try to portray all concerned and motivated Oromo as TPLF agent because
they want to divert real Oromo attention from their divisive agenda. He says like this in Oromoo,”
Hattuun dursite hattuu naman jett; budaan dursitee budaa naman jetti; bilisummaalleen dursee
wayyaanee warra biraatiin jedha.” See what they say about recent Oromo meeting in
Minnesota; “Sagantaan Wayyanee "the Diaspora -Affairs" hojiirra oolaa jirachuu isaa hubattanii
laataa?”
Ifaa, a friend of Hakiim disputes with Hakiim on the assertion that bilisummaa.com is deliberately
doing to weaken Oromo cause. He says, “Bilismmaa.com is used by our enemies who act like
Oromo to weaken Oromo. It is used by the enemies who use our language and speak like us”.
Hence, biliummaa.com might not be complicit in the conspiracies to weaken Oromo but he says,
“They have to be cautious about what they post.” In this regard he mentions, disclaimer posted
by bilisummaa.com recently.
It says, “Disclaimer: The author of the article whose opinions are published here carries the full
responsibility of any kind related to his/her contribution.”bilisummaa.com" IS NOT accountable for
any thought and content of the author's articles/documents. Also, bilisummaa.com is an
independent publication that does not endorse any single idea or represent any entity or group.”
For Hakiim and many Oromo, disclaimer by itself is not enough; they need to be more sensitive
about Oromo unity and refrain from posting information that polarizes Oromo or the least thing
they can do is they need to ask their contributors for moderation? For Hakiim, Ifaa, Biqiltuu,
Gammachiis and Abbebe, there is one thing they need from bilisummaa.com. It should stand by
its slogan, “Oromia shall be Free” than letting down Oromia and breaking the heart of its Oromos
by promoting news and views only from the perspectives of our enemies. Otherwise, they say,
“Bilisummaa.com is not promoting bilisummaa, rather prolonging gabrummaa by weakening
Oromo and Oromummaa. We also have the same message for Oromo paltalks; they need to be
cautious about what they do and be responsive to Oromo people call for temperance and
reconciliation.

comments = Dhiiro,
The writer deserves some credit for sharing his/her opinion. But as for those of you who are
crying fool here. Do something for heaven's sake. Stop visiting www.bilisumma.com and tell your
friends not to. And tell your friends to tell their friends and so forth...that is cyber activism.
As for me, I get my daily dose of news from the following websites;
1 - gadaa.com
2 - Opride.com
3- VoiceofOromia.com
4 - Oromoindex.com (If i want to discuss)

bilisummaa.com credentials
comments = I would be happy to know the credentials of the people behind this website called
bilisummaa.com. It looks that it is owned by some uneducated and never learning individuals.
After being in the media business for over five years, they should have by now learned a lot from
the various articles they posted about the Oromoo. But, I remember what one of my friends used
to say when I was in a high school, a bull is always bull and never goes to school. It seems that
these people behind bilisummaa.com are never learning about the various comments posted on
their websites because they don't read these comments. I doubted if the persons behind these
website are literate enough to comprehend some of the comments given to them...may be they
are some fortunate people who went into the media business early at a time when others
doubted the benefits of the cyber world politics. They have to change their approaches or time is
running fast against them.
I commend the author of this article for taking the initiative to criticize the wrongs of bilisummaa.
com and the likes for the good of the Oromo politics. Bravo tokkummmaa.

comments = I am so delighted to see some one at last started saying some thing against the
Bilisummaa.com folks. It seems that web site is under OPDO operation and it looks the website
is used by one family members and gropus. We have to do all our bests to get read of that web
site operated by narrow minded anti oromo tags. We have to moblize all Oromos not to use that
web site. I would like to ensure you that our community in Seattle is well aware of the divisionist
role being played by bilisumma.
